Occupy Boston protesters marched between Dewey and Dudley squares last night drawing a large crowd to the heart of Roxbury, while crime continued to rear its ugly head at the group’s downtown tent city.

An Occupy Boston volunteer told Boston cops Thursday night that someone stole all the cash donations out of a safe on the site. Detectives went to the scene and found the person who made the initial report meeting with other Occupy Boston protesters.

The protesters reportedly told the person who reported the theft, “don’t tell them anything.” The group told police the money was returned and that they didn’t want officers involved, police said.

At Dudley Square, a diverse crowd of protesters gathered in a peaceful Occupy The Hood rally. Protesters mingled, shared thoughts and held up a variety of signs that read “Fight the Power,” “End Racial Profiling,” “Jobs Not Jails” and “BPD: Protect and Serve the Rich.”

“I wanted to come to Roxbury, and I wanted to support this event,” said Lydia Eccles, who has been protesting at Occupy Boston for nearly two weeks. “It’s important to me that people from Dewey Square come to Roxbury instead of just sitting in Dewey Square.”

Members of the black clergy joined in and said they were proud of the movement and what the Occupy protesters were expressing.

“We are living the dream MLK was talking about, people from the suburbs and inner cities marching together for the betterment of the people,” said Pastor Paris Cherry of the Love Movement Ministries.
