Ten more Occupy Tulsa protesters were arrested Thursday night at the H.A. Chapman Centennial Green downtown. Those who were arrested went peacefully into police custody.
Thirteen people had been arrested there Wednesday night, and 10 were arrested the night before, bringing the total number of arrests for all three nights to 33.
Protesters have camped at Chapman Green at Sixth Street and Boston Avenue since Friday, but Police Chief Chuck Jordan said Wednesday that he decided to begin enforcing the city's park curfew in the early hours of that day after discussing options with the city’s Legal Department.
The park curfew is from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., and police have said the protesters must move to the sidewalks outside the grassy area of the park to avoid being arrested during that time.
As 11 p.m. approached, the group of 10 stood on the grass while about 40 protesters stood on the sidewalk, cheering in support.
Officers arrived at 10:53 and at 11, they began announcements, saying those who were in the park were in violation of city ordinance and were subject to fines or arrest.
A few minutes later, a group of about 35 to 40 officers approached and placed the 10 protesters under arrest one by one.
The crowd on the sidewalk and those on the grass sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" as officers made the arrests.
Officer Jason Willingham said those who were arrested went peacefully.
"All were passive resisters," Willingham said.
