What is this great awakening? Is it the beginning of a new era of enlightened humanity? Or is it all just a dream?
I was raised in a Christian home by parents who took their spirituality seriously. I rejected the doctrines of their church and ultimately of Christianity due to the obvious hypocrisy and inconsistency of the message. If you want to get to heaven, if someone puts your eye out, you are directed by the Father to take out their eye and by the Son to turn the other…

"Occupy Evansville protesters are following the lead of similar movements all over the country by setting up camp. Protesters have built a "tent city" in a Downtown Evansville park tonight despite the chance of criminal consequences.
About 25 people started pitching their tents at around two thirty this afternoon in preparation for an all night sit-in. But if the protesters aren't gone by the time the park closes, police say they could face criminal…

Why I Got Arrested with Occupy Cal--and How
By Celeste Langan
I participated in the Occupy Cal rally on Sproul Plaza on November 9 (my sign, "We're Afraid for Virginia Woolf," made it to the Daily Cal’s top 10) and stayed for the general assembly. The organizers of Occupy Cal asked those who were willing to stay and link arms to protect those who were attempting to set up the encampment; I chose to do so. I knew, both before and after the police…

More police brutality from the Occupy Cal protest at UC-Berkeley November 9, 2011. UC police yank women by their hair so they can destroy the encampment tents. Later, a woman is pinned to a bush and being batoned, and a man trying to rescue her gets…

I have a confession to make. At first, I misunderstood Occupy Wall Street.
The first few times I went down to Zuccotti Park, I came away with mixed feelings. I loved the energy and was amazed by the obvious organic appeal of the movement, the way it was growing on its own. But my initial impression was that it would not be taken very seriously by the Citibanks and Goldman…

When one is called to defend one's home and family, it is not really courage that is required, it is a sense of duty. If my home is under attack, if my family is in danger, it is proper and fitting that I defend them and not expect someone else to put their life at risk for my home and family.
When one is called to defend one's nation, the same sense of duty is conjured. Unfortunately, the calls to defend this nation have been issued on false information in EVERY WAR THE US…
